June in Deer River kicked off with a full Tech Hub reset. We deep cleaned, rearranged the space, and used a label printer to organize everything in a way that actually makes sense for everyone. From 3D printing custom TV remote holders to setting up dedicated VR charging stations, youth have been thinking critically about how to improve the space and make it more functional. This wasn’t just about tidying up—it was about planning effectively, creating systems that work, and setting the tone for a summer of ownership and intentional design.
Through our partnership with the school, Learning Academy, and summer school, we’ve welcomed a bunch of new faces—especially younger students entering 6th and 7th grade. Many of them are stepping into the Tech Hub for the first time, diving into sweatshirt design, heat pressing, and Canva projects with curiosity and excitement. We've also continued our focus on community connections, with youth volunteering to help plant flower beds at the local nursing home—building meaningful, intergenerational relationships.
SnapEd reached back out after our school-year food sovereignty project, and now we’re launching a new creative campaign called We Dance. Youth will be blending graphic design, video editing, and cultural expression to create visuals that celebrate Indigenous identity—and they’ll be paid for their work. June was the restart we needed, and July’s looking even brighter!
